...because I passed the final exam. I actually got the top grade, even. I'm kind of tired now, though - I guess people were right when they said you don't really wanna go partying on the day of the exam, 'cause everything just catches up with you, and you drop off.

I feel kind of weird. Or, actually, I feel totally normal, and that's what's weird. I thought I'd be like more... something. Yeah.

After more than four months, I finally sent Professor G another chapter of my thesis. It's very short, but at least I actually gave her something, yay! I'm slowly beginning to hope I might actually finish the thesis one day.

Bad news is, it's already 3 AM, and I've got to get up and go to work in the morning, which gives me 5 hours of sleep tonight, tops. Sucks to be me, eh?

Well, there goes another wisdom tooth. Jesus Christ. Why do we even need those things? I'm in so much pain, my mouth is full of gauze, and I communicate by means of honking. Not one of my best days, all in all.

So, I'm back home. While I was away, my parents got another dog. She's big, yellow and a little bit stupid, but I guess Mum and Dad need something to do now that my sister has moved out, too. The old dog was bitterly jealous at first, but she's slowly coming to terms with the situation now.

Although she looks kind of resigned in the photo, heh.

Places seen so far: Stuttgart, Esslingen, Strasbourg, Zurich, Schaffhausen. Boeblingen, where we're living, is a boring little backwater, but at least it's very nicely located. Also, the lab is huge - like, "used to get lost in it several times a day" kind of huge. No free tea/coffee, though, which is a shame.

Going to Ireland next Saturday! Can't wait to see Charlotte and Dave again. Plus, everyone's telling me that Dublin is all kinds of awesome. Time to check it firsthand, I think.

Some of you already know this - I'm going to Germany for a summer internship at another IBM lab. If anyone wants a postcard, send me your address (my email is in the profile). :)

Anyway, I'm kind of beginning to think that I might like to stay in Krakow afterwards. Like, for the past couple of years I never used to have more stuff than I could carry with me, and I was always happy to get up and go, but now living in one place suddenly seems more and more appealing. I really am getting old.

...doesn't mean I'm too old to be absolutely ecstatic at the perspective of spending the whole summer abroad, though. If I ever get too old for that, I expect to be gently put out of my misery. :D

I've got inline skates! But I bet my flatmates wish I hadn't picked midnight of all times to start trying them out.

My grandparents had this big old pendulum clock that grandpa always used to wind. It wasn't terribly accurate, so he had to wind it every week or so, and he always, always did it, even two weeks before his death, when he was almost too weak to stand. When grandpa died, the clock stopped. I never believed things like that really happened, but it did.

I was close with my grandpa. I was his oldest grandchild; he chose my name, and he basically brought me up for the first three years of my life. I know and accept that he had a good death. He had cancer (though we didn't even know that until a couple of days before he died) but he didn't die of it, in the end. He died quickly and painlessly, with grandma at his side, when his heart just stopped. This was a mercy, compared to the long, lingering death of cancer - grandpa was always afraid of dying in a hospital. I know all that. But it's still hard to imagine that someone whom I loved, who was always there for me, can now be gone, and that I'm never going to talk to him again.

I can't believe it's been a week since he died.

So, if anyone's been wondering what is that Richard II thing that I'm writing my thesis about, there are clips from a really awesome production on this channel here. Seriously, just look at this one:

...and ohGodohGodohGod I want to see the whole thing. I WANT. Partly because I'm referring to various productions anyway, and this one looks really interesting, and it would definitely help me out. But mostly because it's really really awesome, and I want it. I went looking for it but couldn't find it anywhere, and now I'm never gonna see it all, and woe.

My life is incomplete. DDD:

...shuddup, you don't understand. :P

Lately I've been spending my days at work, and my nights slogging through the thesis, and ugh. It makes me cranky. But you know what cheers me up?

Things like this. Because it's super-awesome. Thanks, [info]blienky27, you made my day like whoah. :D

I've been working on the thesis non-stop for the past day and a half... well, I did stop for sleeping. But not too long. I'm caffeinated like a mad caffeinated thing. Whee, jitters! Progress has been made, but not nearly as much as I planned.

And Harold Bloom wants to suck Shakespeare's dick.

ETA: Correction - he wants to suck Falstaff's dick, while Shakespeare smiles on in benign approval.

It's an hour to the housewarming party, and I'm planning... no, not how to combat the hangover tomorrow, or how to distribute my alcohol intake so that I don't pass out halfway through the evening. I'm planning how long I can stay so that I'm sober and in working condition in the morning. It seems I'll probably have to take the first night bus at the absolute latest.

Once I'm done with the bloody thesis, I swear I'm gonna get so drunk I'll be puking fucking frogs. For a week.

I'm almost done with the second part of teaching practice now, thank God. I think I liked the first round better. I've had to do this one in Krakow, for obvious reasons (like, my boss at the lab is very understanding, but she probably wouldn't like me to take three weeks off for teaching practice).

On the one hand, the students here really know English very well, so working with then is more like teaching and less like pulling teeth, in comparison to the kids at my old school. (Also, they're better dressed, the lucky snots. Sometimes they're in fact better dressed than I am, which, in my opinion, is simply not fair.)

On the other hand... I dunno. They're kind of distant. It's hard to get a rapport. Well, whatever - like I said, I'm nearly done with them, and this, I hope, will be the end of my adventures in teaching. :)

Also, I'm gonna get so pissed tonight. It's long overdue.

I think the thesis might be making me a little too obsessed with Richard II.

Last night, for example, I dreamed entirely in blank verse and rhyming couplets.

I'm currently having that blissful feeling of not-caring-at-all that you get when you're this close to expiring from overeating. I've also got proof positive that my family actually listens to what I say - some time ago, I mentioned that I needed a new belt, and also that my favourite beads had snapped, and the next thing I knew, I got two belts and two strings of beads for Christmas, one from my sister and one from my parents. Different colours, though, so that's all right. :)

I don't think I'll be coming back to Krakow for New Year's Eve. I don't see my family that often these days, so I'll be making the most of this holiday while I can. (Can't believe I'm actually choosing to stay at home with Mum and Dad, rather than to go to a party! My sister is right - I am getting old. ^_^)

Um. What else? Well, the people at IBM have extended my internship until June, with the possibility of getting another extension if I don't graduate by that time. I'm still saving up everything I earn, but now I'm thinking maybe I'll go to Sardinia instead of Corsica. I don't know, which one sounds better, do you think?

Not much to report - I'm working my butt off at the Lab, 8.5 hours' shift day in, day out, but I like it, it's really quite cool. They're gonna extend my internship from one month to three, so that's good too. Plus, I'm gonna earn me a shitload of money, and I'm gonna save it all, and then I'm gonna use it to pay my trip to Ireland next summer. Or to Corsica. Or Ireland and Corsica, even, if I can pull it off.

But I came to the conclusion that the uni really is quite boring in comparison. I want to be a real young professional already!
